Hawar International School (HIS) was established in 2001 by a group of dedicated Bahraini professionals wishing to provide a bilingual education of excellence from Nursery and KG to Grade 12 in a learner-friendly environment while preserving the culture and heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Islamic society. As well as the American and Arabic Curriculum, HIS aims to provide special needs education and facilities for students with physical and learning needs to help support them during their education. HIS aims to ensure that each pupil gets a well-rounded education that will equip them for the challenges faced in the world today and for tomorrow. The school follows the American curriculum based on the Virginia State standards of education for all English subjects. For Arabic subjects, the school follows the standards set by the Bahrain Ministry of Education.

In the KG section, there is a 50/50 split between Arabic and English subjects allowing for literacy and numeracy in both languages. The KG2 follows the Ministry of Bahrain curriculum for Arabic subjects whilst this English program is based on the standards set by the State of Virginia.

Elementary students study Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Islamic Studies, English, Maths and Science. Lessons are also taken in Art, French, PE and ICT. Students in Grades 1-3 also study Mandarin Chinese.

Middle School students study Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Islamic Studies, English, Maths, Science and Social Studies. Lessons are also taken in Art, French, PE and ICT.

High School students study Arabic Language, Arabic Social Studies, Islamic Studies, English, Maths, Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and Social Studies including Business Studies and Economics. Lessons are also taken in PE and ICT and in Grade 12 students are prepared for university with a Careers Education Development Program (CEDP).
